Annual Service and Patron’s Sermon


Each year the Society holds a service at which our Patron, the Rt. Revd. John Packer, Bishop of Ripon and Leeds, delivers his Patron’s Sermon. In 2007 the service was held at St. Paul’s Church, Ireland Wood, the church attended by the outgoing Secretary, Mr. David Breton, and the new Secretary, the Revd Dr. Roy Yates. We are grateful to the Vicar, the Revd. Christopher Cornwell, for ordering such a moving service, and to Bishop John for his inspiring sermon.

In 2008 the Annual Service and Patron’s Sermon will be at Emmanuel Church on Sunday 4 May at 5.15 pm. The church was redeveloped in 2004 to become ‘Emmanuel Centre’; the base for the Chaplaincy to the University of Leeds and Leeds Metropolitan University. LCES supports the work of the Anglican Chaplain, the Revd. Matt. Ward, through its management of the Leeds Universities’ Anglican Chaplaincy Fund.
